Did you know that the average home leaks nearly 10,000 gallons every year?

Help stop water waste by becoming a leak detective. Please report leaks in campus facilities to the 24-Hour LBRE Operations Line at 650-723-2281. Students can report leaks inside their dorms using R&DE's Fix-It Request

SCRL residents can find leaks by checking their:

  1. Water bill: Winter use > 3,000 gallons per person each month may indicate a leak.
  2. Water meter: Read your meter before and after a ≥ 30-minute period of no water use. If the reading increases, you may have a leak.
  3. Toilet: Add food coloring to the tank. If color shows up in the bowl after 15-30 minutes, replace the toilet flapper.
  4. Faucet/showerhead: Look and listen for drips
  5. Appliances: Look for water damage around the water heater, dishwasher, and washing machine.
