Bioretention Facility

The Stanford campus is located in the jurisdiction of Santa Clara County and is subject to the terms of the Municipal Regional Permit (MRP), which regulates stormwater quality programs for a collective of municipal permittees in the South Bay region.  Provision C.3 of the MRP requires stormwater treatment prior to discharge to the municipal storm drain system.  In compliance with this provision, Stanford has installed and maintains many stormwater treatment facilities including hydrodynamic separation, pervious pavements, infiltration trenches, vegetated swales, stormwater capture facilities and bio-retention basins.  The facilities are maintained by campus staff and are regularly inspected.
